Times to Subtract Calculator – How Many Times Can be Subtracted

Welcome to the Times to Subtract Calculator, which is used to calculate how many times a given number can be subtracted from another. For example, How many times can 10 be subtracted from 100?

Times to Subtract Calculator

How many times can a be subtracted from b?

Eg, How many times can 10 be subtracted from 100? Enter 10 in the first input box and enter 100 in the second input box, then click Calculate button.

How to calculate how many times can be subtracted?

First of all, what is the endpoint of the subtraction?

Negative number or zero?

If it is a negative number that is not specified, the times of subtractions will be infinite.

Therefore, we calculate the times of subtractions, whose final result is 0. That is, after subtracting multiple times, the result is 0.

So, the full description of the question should be: How many times can 10 be subtracted from 100 and the final result is 0?

How to solve it?

Two common methods are subtraction and division.

Subtraction Method

Descending sequentially until 0 or a negative number.

As in the example above

100 – 10 = 90

90 – 10 = 80

80 – 10 = 70

70 – 10 = 60

60 – 10 = 50

50 – 10 = 40

40 – 10 = 30

30 – 10 = 20

20 – 10 = 10

10 – 10 = 0

So, the answer is 10 times. This method is simple but has a fatal flaw. If the number is large, multiple calculations are required.

Division Method

Divide the subtracted number by the subtrahend directly.

If the remainder is 0, then the quotient is the times to subtract. If the remainder is greater than 0, then adding 1 to the quotient is the times we want.

For example, How many times can 10 be subtracted from 100?

10010 = 10

100 is divisible by 10, the quotient is 10.

So, there are 10 times you can subtract 10 from 100.

Another example, how many times can 8 be subtracted from 33?

With the Quotient and Remainder Calculator, we can know that when 33 is divided by 8, the quotient is 4, and the remainder is 1.

338 = 4…1

The remainder is greater than 0, so add 1 to the quotient.

Thus, subtract 8 from 33, you can subtract 5 times.

Of course, there are other methods, such as arithmetic sequence and so on, which will not be described in detail here. If possible, it is recommended to use the Times to Subtract Calculator on the page directly, enter the number and you can get the answer immediately.

Next, we will introduce how to use the calculator.

How to use the calculator to calculate the times to subtract

Using the calculator is simple, follow these 3 steps:

  • 1Enter the subtrahend in the first input box.
  • 2Enter the subtracted number in the second input box.
  • 3Click Calculate button to get the answer, or click Reset button to start a new calculation.

Next, let’s look at some examples.

Solved examples using the times to subtract calculator
