What are relatively prime numbers?

Relatively prime, also called coprime, refers to a pair of integers whose common factor is only 1. In other words, two integers are relatively prime if their greatest common divisor is 1. For example, 2 and 3 are relatively prime, 3 and 7 are also relatively prime.

Obviously, 1 and any number are relatively prime. At the same time, according to the definition of prime numbers, it can be clearly concluded that any two different prime numbers are relatively prime. And some other interesting facts:

  • 1Any two consecutive natural numbers are relatively prime.
  • 2Any two consecutive odd numbers are relatively prime.
  • 3No two even numbers can be relatively prime.
  • 4One is prime and the other number is not a multiple of it. These two numbers are relatively prime.
  • 5If the larger number is prime, then these two numbers are relatively prime.

How to use the relatively prime calculator

The procedure to use the relatively prime calculator is as follows:

  • 1Enter 2 positive integers in the two input boxes respectively.
  • 2Click Calculate button to check whether the input numbers are relatively prime.
  • 3Click the Reset button to start a new verification.

Solved examples using the relatively prime calculator

Example 1: Are 35 and 72 relatively prime?

Enter 35 into the first input box.

Enter 72 into the second input box.

Then click Calculate button, as shown in the figure, 35 and 72 are relatively prime.

The factors of 35 are 1, 5, 7 and 35.

The factors of 72 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36 and 72.

So, the greatest common divisor of 35 and 72 is 1, they are relatively prime.

Are 35 and 72 relatively prime

Example 2: Are 46 and 105 relatively prime?

Enter 46 into the first input box.

Enter 105 into the second input box.

Then click Calculate button, as shown in the figure, 46 and 105 are relatively prime.

The factors of 46 are 1, 2, 23 and 46.

The factors of 105 are 1, 3, 5, 7, 15, 21, 35 and 105.

So, the greatest common divisor of 46 and 105 is 1, they are relatively prime.

Are 46 and 105 relatively prime
