Quotient and Remainder Calculator

The quotient and remainder calculator is a free online tool for calculating the quotient and remainder between two numbers. For example: what is the quotient and remainder of 100 divided by 6? Similar problems can be easily calculated by this calculator.

Quotient and Remainder Calculator

Dividend ÷ Divisor = Quotient···Remainder

Eg, calculate the quotient and remainder of 18 divided by 4. Enter 18 into the first input box and enter 4 into the second input box.

Definitions and Formulas

First of all, you must understand 4 concepts: dividend, divisor, quotient and remainder.

The dividend is the number before the division sign in the division operation.

The divisor is the number after the division sign in the division operation.

The quotient refers to the integer part of the result in the division operation.

The remainder is the integer left over after dividing one integer by another to produce an integer quotient. When the dividend can be divided completely in integer division, the remainder is 0. Usually, the remainder must be less than the divisor.

For example, 26 divided by 4, where 26 is the dividend and 4 is the divisor, then the quotient is 6 and the remainder is 2.

26 ÷ 4 = 6···2

Another example, 27 divided by 3 is divisible, so the quotient is 9 and the remainder is 0.

The calculation formula of division is:

a ÷ b = q···r

Among them, a is the dividend, b is the divisor, q is the quotient, and r is the remainder.

Then it is deduced that:

Quotient = (Dividend – Remainder) ÷ Divisor

Remainder = Dividend – Divisor × Quotient

How to use the quotient and remainder calculator

The procedure to use quotient and remainder calculator is as follows:

  • 1Enter the dividend.
  • 2Enter the divisor.
  • 3Click Calculate button to get the quotient and remainder.
  • 4Click the Reset button to start a new calculation.
