What are the betrothed numbers?

The betrothed numbers are also called quasi-amicable numbers. If there are two positive integers, the sum of all proper factors except 1 of either number is equal to the other number, then we call these two integers betrothed numbers. Note that the difference with amicable numbers is that 1 is excluded.

For example: Are 140 and 195 betrothed numbers?

The sum of all proper factors except 1 of 140 is:

2 + 4 + 5 + 7 + 10 + 14 + 20 + 28 + 35 + 70 = 195

The sum of all proper factors except 1 of 195 is:

3 + 5 + 13 + 15 + 39 + 65 = 140

As you can see, the sum of their factors is exactly equal to the other number. So, 140 and 195 are betrothed numbers.

Solved examples using the betrothed numbers calculator

Example 1: Are 60 and 80 betrothed numbers?

Enter 60 into the first input box.

Enter 80 into the second input box.

Then click Calculate button, as shown in the figure, 60 and 80 are not betrothed numbers.

The sum of all proper factors except 1 of 60 is:

2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 10 + 12 + 15 + 20 + 30 = 107

The sum of all proper factors except  1 of 80 is:

2 + 4 + 5 + 8 + 10 + 16 + 20 + 40 = 105

Are 60 and 80 betrothed numbers

Example 2: Are 1050 and 1925 betrothed numbers?

Enter 1050 into the first input box.

Enter 1925 into the second input box.

Then click Calculate button, as shown in the figure, 1050 and 1925 are betrothed numbers.

The sum of all proper factors except 1 of 1050 is:

2 + 3 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 10 + 14 + 15 + 21 + 25 + 30 + 35 + 42 + 50 + 70 + 75 + 105 + 150 + 175 + 210 + 350 + 525 = 1925

The sum of all proper factors except  1 of 1925 is:

5 + 7 + 11 + 25 + 35 + 55 + 77 + 175 + 275 + 385 = 1050

Are 1050 and 1925 betrothed numbers
